A Very Memorable Veteran's Day

On Veteran's Day we were privileged to host several military veterans and their spouses as a tangible expression of our gratitude for their service to our country.  It was an honor to serve them and thank them face to face for the sacrifices they made so that we could enjoy the freedom we have today.

With tears in their eyes, two of these veterans told me about sleeping in the dirt and mud of Vietnam in the early 60s, and Iraq during the first gulf war, and how they were treated so poorly upon their return home.  Both felt so honored to be the recipients of our small gift of thanks.  Here is what one wrote in the bedside journal:

"To merely thank you for a beautiful Veteran's Day is not enough.  Our appreciaton runs much deeper than that!  As a Vietnam Vet, I was not treated very well back then--but you have made us feel very special and your thank you note and kind treatment means everything to us.  We've waited so long--"

Needless to say we will be setting this day aside for our veterans for many years to come.  Linda

Double Rainbow!

Dan and I went wine tasting Sunday afternoon, and stopped in at Coehlo Tasting Room in Amity first, then headed to Stoller Vineyards in Dayton. As you drive through the countryside, you just marvel how beautiful Oregon is (yes, the rain does help with all this beauty we have!). We were fortunate enough to witness a spectacular double rainbow at Stoller Vineyards while there (pictured). Surrounded by lush, green grass and highlighted by a rainbow with stunning yellow-leaved vineyards in the background, it's was all just so breathtaking. Thank goodness I have a camera on my phone!
